An exciting opportunity has arisen with one of our long-standing clients, a specialist in high-frequency RF and mmWave solutions for mission-critical communications and sensing applications. With decades of experience in designing cutting-edge components such as SSPAs, filters, and transceivers, they serve a wide range of industries including satellite, defence, and advanced telecoms.
We’re looking for a Senior MMIC Engineer to join their engineering group, collaborating closely with RF, electronics, and systems engineers to drive the design and development of advanced MMIC-based products. This is a key technical role focused on RFIC/MMIC design using GaAs, GaN, and InP technologies, supporting applications from 37GHz up to 115GHz and beyond.
Key Responsibilities:- Design and layout of MMICs including LNAs, gain blocks, power amplifiers, up/down-converters, multipliers, and variable attenuators across multiple process technologies.
- Select appropriate MMIC processes based on application requirements and performance trade-offs.
- Conduct simulations and hands-on testing to validate designs, working with in-house labs and external semiconductor foundries.
- Prepare and review comprehensive design documentation, ensuring alignment with technical, quality, cost, and manufacturing goals.
- Collaborate with other engineering teams during design reviews to reduce risk and improve reliability.
- Perform thermal analysis and MTBF assessments.
- Manage fab submissions, coordinate with foundries, and support prototype and production testing.
- Identify and document novel IP arising from design work with potential for patent applications.
- A relevant engineering degree (MSc or PhD preferred).
- Experience in MMIC/RFIC design within the semiconductor or RF industry.
- Hands-on experience designing MMIC amplifiers, frequency converters, and related RF circuits using GaAs or GaN HEMT technologies.
- Strong measurement skills, including wafer probing and use of advanced RF lab equipment.
- A solid understanding of various semiconductor technologies and their impact on RFIC/MMIC performance.
- Familiarity with RF/microwave system-level design is advantageous.
- Previous engagement with external foundries and understanding of their workflows is beneficial.
- Flexible hybrid working options.
- Generous pension and life assurance schemes.
- Training & development support.
- Competitive holiday allowance.
- Opportunity to contribute to advanced mmWave products used globally.
