About the role
As the new DevOps Engineering Manager, you'll be responsible for building from scratch, a high-performing team of Platform Engineers. Your mission? To orchestrate and evolve the core technology platforms that underpin the organisation’s critical systems and services. You’ll design and implement strategies that allow seamless interoperability across cloud, on-prem, and edge environments. And you’ll champion DevOps, automation, and platform maturity to improve agility, resilience, and speed of delivery across the estate. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires deep technical insight, sharp strategic thinking, and a people-first mindset.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and execute a platform infrastructure strategy focused on performance, agility, resilience, and cost optimisation.
- Drive the adoption of self-service models, and automation tools to create a unified and scalable platform capability.
- Lead platform operations across cloud, on-prem, and hybrid environments — simplifying architecture and reducing technical debt.
- Define SLIs and SLOs across latency, availability, and throughput, aligning internal goals with platform performance.
- Promote and embed Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices to improve stability, monitoring, and response.
- Manage a growing toolset for orchestration, observability, and automation.
- Partner closely with Engineering, Delivery, and Architecture teams to ensure seamless integration and interoperability across the stack.
- Drive platform innovation by tracking emerging technologies, tools, and vendor solutions.
- Support financial management by tracking compute, license, and platform run costs — identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Build strong internal and external stakeholder relationships — advocating for platform goals and aligning with business objectives.
What we’re looking for:
- Expertise with Azure cloud services, including resource management, networking, and compute.
- Proficiency in Azure DevOps, including CI/CD pipelines, Azure Boards, and Azure Repos.
- Knowledge of Azure infrastructure as code (IaC) tools like Terraform, ARM templates, or Azure CLI.
- Strong knowledge of modern platform management practices (DevOps, Agile, SRE, ITIL).
- Deep experience with platform tooling — including IaC, APIs, automation, and observability frameworks.
- Proven ability to design, build, and scale robust platform services across complex, regulated environments.
- Experienced in cloud/hybrid environments with a clear understanding of platform interconnectivity, scalability, and self-service.
- Strong leadership skills — able to build, develop, and motivate cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to influence senior leaders.
- Experience driving platform maturity within digital transformation programmes is highly desirable.
Bonus points if you have:
- Experience building platform teams from the ground up.
- Background in regulated industries (e.g. healthcare, finance).
- A relevant degree or certifications in Agile, DevOps, or cloud infrastructure.
Why join?
Because here, technology isn’t just about speed, scale, or shiny new tools...it’s about impact. It’s about helping people live healthier, safer lives. You’ll be part of a collaborative, values-led culture that genuinely cares, and where every improvement you drive has the potential to change someone’s world.
