Job Summary: Responsible for identifying, evaluating, and recommending prospective new work within the respective nuclear energy market areas including judicious market development and penetration across Europe. Often manages simultaneous marketing and business development efforts. Builds and manages relationships with customers, potential teaming partners and competitor organizations. Works in close coordination with the General Manager of Nuclear Power and reports to the Manager of Business Development for Nuclear Power. Works closely with senior managers, functional managers and counterparts within Bechtel's region and industry sectors. May provide management guidance and operational direction to business development managers within relevant market sector/region.
Major Responsibilities:
- Serves as lead strategist for market sector/region.
- Directs departmental efforts and activities in maintaining and improving relationships with customers and the supply chain and building relations with prospective customers.
- Assists other Marketing and Business Development (M&BD) professionals and senior management or are responsible for:
- Building and maintaining relationships with appropriate middle and senior management executives in customer organizations and judicious teaming partners and developing advantageous positions to gain prospective work.
- Keeping informed of customers' present and future plans for growth, projects, and programmatic and technical requirements.
- Demonstrating personal knowledge, supplemented by other Bechtel personnel, how Bechtel can help meet the customers' requirements and expectations.
- Being knowledgeable of present and future customer programs and project plans.
- Advising customers of new developments in the management, design, construction, and/or operation of their facilities, and aiding them in solving their challenges.
- Developing and maintaining associations in the business community, including suppliers and technology providers, to keep apprised of new business opportunities.
- Keeps apprised of business development activity and strategy of competitors including their pricing trends, strategies and policies, awards, and losses.
- Follow's up on jobs won and lost to competition to find the reasons why Bechtel was or was not selected and monitors competitors' project performance and marketing strategies.
- Conducts research of current and future markets for present and new opportunities.
- Develop recommendations for new opportunities and new industry markets that the company should offer and actively pursue.
- Responsible for key teaming decisions and for negotiating scope splits, roles, and financial arrangements with teaming partners.
- Directs the preparation of proposals, including assuring the participation of appropriate functional organizations.
- Establishes proposal strategy and pricing.
- Responsible for development of the plant performance strategy.
- Responsible for directing and obtaining timely, appropriate Bechtel management approvals to support new bids in accordance with corporate and company directives and legal instructions.
- Responsible for final proposal presentations and negotiations of Bechtel responsibilities and fee approach with customers.
- Directs the preparation of and obtains legal and management approval of contracts for awarded projects.
- Formulates, recommends, and monitors business development policies, plans, programs, and budgets to achieve sales growth, portfolio diversification, and profitability.
- Responsible for performance review, training and development of direct reports.
- Provides after-sales services by monitoring and reviewing the progress of the project with the customers.
- Prepare sales and marketing materials for use with customers.
- Ensures dissemination of strategies within the company and buy-in among the various departments and functional organizations.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Level 1 Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 15+ years of relevant experience or 19+ years of relevant work experience.
- Level 2 Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 18+ years of relevant experience or 22+ years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Must have UK work experience and the legal right to work and remain in the United Kingdom without needing visa sponsorship.
- Knowledge and experience in commercial nuclear power industry.
- Experience in EPC and integrated delivery or delivery partner roles is preferred.
- Knowledge of power projects and expertise in EPC contract and subcontract preparation, negotiations, project planning, scope definition and cost estimation preferred.
- Knowledge of markets, competitors, potential teaming partners, customer buying factors, pricing strategies and trends.
- Thorough knowledge of and experience in company operations and market sector/region.
- Demonstrated skill in development of business, sales, and sustaining relationships with clients.
- Experience in prospective development with customers.
- Demonstrated ability to screen prospective clients and to formulate and present new concepts for business development and project conceptualization.
- Demonstrated ability to perform research and analysis, including the ability to cull pertinent data from the general data pool.
- Skills in oral and written communications and ability to make presentations to clients and senior management.
- Ability to organize and plan resources and motivate teams to win new work.
