Job Purpose: As an analyst you will focus on ascertaining an in-depth understanding of customer requirements and demonstrate effective management of assignments to deliver on time and on budget. On each assignment you will elicit the requirements, typically in workshops at customer locations, and be responsible for obtaining backlog approval. You will document the user and business requirements to company standard and communicate the requirements to delivery and technical colleagues accurately with user requirements documentation and concept of operations. As this role requires regular visits to customer sites, you must be comfortable travelling unaccompanied to locations within the UK. You should also feel confident and competent in user workshops by exercising a tried and tested playbook for elicitation from all stakeholder levels.
What you will be doing:
- Pre Project: Provide support to the sales process with timely and compelling documented proposal content and visionary user centric solutions that inspire our customers.
- Initiation and Elaboration: Conduct the analysis activity at customer locations in the UK to have face to face discussions and hold group workshops. Prepare for the analysis activity through reviewing the domain, evaluating stakeholders, determining the output required and how best to achieve success. Review the analysis and produce business level requirements with supporting documentation, which both the customer and technical teams understand. Communicate the documented analysis, thereby assisting in the customer approval of the output and ensuring the technical team deliver the required solution in accordance with the customer expectations. Uncover non functional requirements, constraints and behaviours by understanding the context of operation. Present content internally and externally as required.
- During Development and Delivery: Timely delivery of supporting content and approved User Stories. Support the development and release of the required solution by providing good and frequent collaboration with the technical and delivery teams, and verification of the developed output. During implementation you will remove impediments through collaboration with the client and manage issues and answer questions, verify build, and assist with demonstrations. Be responsible for the project scope in line with budget and customer expectations. Provide timely updates to stakeholders, escalating issues when necessary. Conduct customer demonstrations and feedback sessions. Identify and manage risks to aid the success of the project. Document progress against outstanding milestones, status, resource requirements, issues, risks and dependencies, in accordance with the policies and procedures of the technical department. Collaborate in a professional and friendly manner with specialist staff (internal and external) at all stages of the software development lifecycle.
- Deployment Phase: Act as customer proxy during User Acceptance Testing. Support Release and handover documentation. Respond to support requests and post release queries by providing knowledge and documentation. Support production of Training materials.
What you will need:
- Essential Experience, Knowledge and Skills: Recognised Business Analyst qualification. Excellent soft skills such as communication, presentation and negotiation. Be willing and enthusiastic to present and advocate novel technical solutions at customer sites. Experience in delivering software using various software methodologies, particularly Agile and Waterfall. Experience in creating UML, BPMN 2.0 models and diagrams, particularly conceptual domain models, activity diagrams, and use case diagrams. Experience in developing and documenting requirements, with acceptance tests, and providing supporting artefacts like wireframes and data dictionaries. Possess a thorough and enthusiastic approach to stakeholder management, being proactive in preparing for all engagement with users, subject matter experts, owners, and sponsors. Logical in approach, and adaptable to the style and quantity of analysis required, based on available time, resources, and value. Collaborate in a professional, friendly and attentive manner at all stages of the software development lifecycle, particularly with clients and specialist staff. Approachable and consistent in wanting to share knowledge. Able to work autonomously and be self-motivated, with a positive attitude and an adaptable approach. Must be able to achieve Security Clearance (SC) status.
- Desirable Experience, Knowledge and Skills: A focus on User Centred Design practises. Experience of wireframes and UX/UI prototyping methodologies. A BSc In Computing, Computer Science, Information Systems/Management or similar. Experience of Project Management of small/medium projects. Familiarity of development and database technologies ability to understand data mapping. Working with test automation. Some UAT experience would be an advantage. Experience of documenting with UML case tool e.g. Enterprise Architect. Experience of SysML, TOGAF or alternative notation. Experience of working on defence-related projects.
