Join our dynamic team at one of our unique summer camps located in some of the greatest cities across North America! Our camps operate on University Campuses in Vancouver, Toronto, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco. Our campers fly to Tamwood from all over the world to study English, have fun with friends at the on-campus activities and explore the city on our exciting excursions!
Job Summary
General Counselors are primarily responsible for the safety, security and well being of a group of Tamwood campers. Counsellors attend, participate and deliver camp programming and ensure campers are engaged and happy! This is a live-in position on an overnight campus in Canada.
Reporting Structure
General Counselors report directly to Senior Counselors and report indirectly to Coordinators, the Camp Director, Regional Supervisor and to Head Office.
Desired Qualifications
- College diploma or undergraduate degree studies or relevant experience with children
- Prior experience working with or supervising children
- Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills, ability to work independently and within a team
- Ability to: maintain enthusiasm and energy for long durations of time; work under pressure with changing priorities and to meet deadlines; and maintain confidentiality and deal with sensitive issues with tact and discretion
- Applicants must be 18 years old by June 1st, 2025
- Must have valid Basic First Aid-CPR C certification by June 1st.
- Criminal Record check (not older than 6 months) is required
Work performed
- Responsible for a managing a Counselor Group (a group of campers)
- Supervises campers, in residence, at activities, on excursions and during meal times
- Ensures campers are prepared and on time for activities
- Ensures camper inclusion within counsellor group and the camp community
- Generates and maintains camper enthusiasm for English classes, activities and other special events
- Participate in and assist with evening programs & excursions (ex. Disco night, Talent Show, Theme Park visits)
- Participate in and lead daily activities (ex. sports, arts & crafts)
- Promotes the English Only Policy
- Assists with night duty and on call duty as assigned
- Attends all meetings as scheduled by the Camp Administrative Team (ex. Morning Huddle)
- Monitors campers’ health including nutrition, hydration, sun protection and overall wellness
- Assists with creating and delivering camp programming (ex. Conversation Club and Talent Shows)
- Assists with camper arrival and departure procedures
- Active participation in pre- and post-camp periods
- Administers first aid as required
- Adheres to all Tamwood Policies and Procedures as outlined in Staff Manual and provided via LMS Tamwood Camp Training
- Completion of accident, incident and discipline report forms as required
- Submits final feedback evaluation at the end of contract
- Attends all meals while on duty
- Wears the camp t-shirt and lanyard at all times while on duty
- Performs other duties as needed
Contract length: The contract length will depend on the Camp location:
7-week camp SFU Vancouver: June 23rd,2025 to August 18th, 2025
6-week camp UBC Vancouver, UTM Toronto: Jun 23rd, 2025 to August 11th, 2025
