Duration: 12 months, full-time maternity cover Start date: 18 August 2025 We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Commercial Manager to join our commercial team on a maternity cover basis. This role is crucial in driving our business initiatives and ensuring the smooth operation of our commercial channels. Role summary The Commercial Manager is responsible for project managing new commercial channels and supporting the growth of established commercial channels. This is a broad remit that delivers on the organisation’s commercial strategy to sustainably grow revenue, and plays a pivotal role in building relationships with members, partners and customers, achieving revenue targets, keeping projects to time and budget, and expanding market reach. Reporting to the Commercial Director, the Commercial Manager is an agile worker who is just as comfortable having commercial conversations with C-Suite executives as they are in project managing the launch of a new software product. Key responsibilities Lead new business initiatives and project development: Manage concept and technical development, market research, stakeholder engagement, and product launch strategies. Establish timelines, roles, responsibilities, and resourcing requirements to keep projects on schedule and budget. Manage external relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and product suitability for industry needs. Key channels are ISF Verify and other channels as determined by the Commercial Director. Optimise processes and technology to maximise profitability and value. Engage with key customers to ensure the continuing value of the channel and hit revenue targets. Key channels are ICS Maritime Hub and ICS Academy. Manage member relationships: Grow the organisation’s membership base by engaging new members and promoting membership value. Onboard new members and manage existing member relations to enhance satisfaction and retention. Improve business processes: Continuously review sales and purchase processes and websites for all commercial products and services, identifying opportunities for improvement and cross-promotion. Ensure all content across ICS websites supports commercial growth and maintains high professional standards. Oversee policies and processes to support software integration, including AI, and perform monthly user experience testing. Build client and partner networks: Organise and participate in industry events and committee meetings to identify potential partners and network with industry professionals. Identify potential customers within the maritime sector and develop strategies to expand the customer base and increase revenue. Essential skills Excellent communication, relationship management and interpersonal skills. Highly organised, with the ability to prioritise and manage workloads effectively. Flexible approach and willingness to work in an agile way to achieve goals. Pro-active decision making and problem solving and ability to work independently. Strong technical knowledge on software systems. Strong research and analytical skills. Strategic planning skills, ensuring business development aligns with ICS goals and ambitions. Confident dealing with C-Suite and senior personnel in government and corporate sectors. Ability to collaborate effectively with other departments.
