Chronos Energy are looking to recruit a SHEQ Manager for their client, a well-known design, build and operator of District Heating schemes in the UK.

The SHEQ Manager plays a vital role within our clients team, working alongside an already established SHEQ team to ensure that all business activities are legally and contractually compliant and represent excellence in business delivery. The chosen candidate will be home based with regular site travel predominantly to sites in Midlands and the North of England.

The SHEQ Manager will ensure that the company operates to the highest standards of Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality through being accountable for the delivery of the SHEQ strategy and engagement to ensure continuous improvement, world class performance and the development of appropriate SHEQ culture.

Reporting directly to the SHEQ Director, supporting in the provision of Key Performance Indicator (KPI) targets, the maintenance and retention of ISO accreditations, site inspections and the reporting and investigation of all safety, health and environmental accidents and incidents.

Responsibilities / Deliverables

  • Inspecting places of work, focusing on provision of safe systems of work, safe places of work and attitudes towards SHEQ. Issue formal reports, recommending corrective action.
  • Actively promote improvements in attitudes towards SHEQ ensuring the provision of a SHEQ induction service for personnel at all levels, in accident prevention techniques and hazard awareness.
  • Supporting the business whilst undertaking project construction, design & development, to ensuring that all works are aligned are aligned and compliant with the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations (CDM). Carrying out reviews of Construction Gateway Process.
  • Giving Temporary Works advice.
  • Ensuring that personnel are regularly and properly informed by maintaining a co-ordinated system of SHEQ publicity, promotions, and adequate level of training (Working Safely).
  • Ensuring that personnel at all levels are properly updated on new and revised personal SHEQ legislation.
  • Carrying out full investigations into all accidents/incidents, fires, and dangerous occurrences, and issuing reports detailing causes and recommended action.
  • Ensure that Accident/Incident database (Work Wallet) is updated on a regular basis and that actions are closed on a timely basis. Liaising with Management and the Authorities on the notification of accidents and dangerous occurrences, and the reporting/recording of these incidents.
  • Assisting when required in the preparation of risk assessments and method statements in conjunction with management and sub-contractors etc.
  • Attend Site Management and Quarterly SHEQ Meetings.
  • Fostering good relations by co-operation with representatives of the Health & Safety Executive, Environmental Health Officer, Environment Agency, Clients, Staff, and other Contractors.
  • Assist with PQQ’s.
  • Support central SHEQ development and initiatives.
  • Delivery of mandatory training.
  • Provide monthly statistics to SHEQ and Compliance Director.
  • Ensure SHEQ incidents that require formal investigation (based on the severity), follow an agreed formalised process in Work Wallet. Ensure completion and closure of all SHEQ incidents and actions in agreed timescales including RIDDOR to HSE.
  • Manage the safe, high-quality delivery and continuous improvement of all projects, working closely with the Operational teams.
  • Ensure production and delivery of SHEQ awareness training e.g. Drop-in Sessions, safety briefs & toolbox talks to the operational teams and the wider business.
  • Ensure full compliance and awareness of CDM 2015 regulations through the implementation of the Management System CDM Processes.
  • Ensure that sub-contractors activities meet relevant HSEQ compliance obligations by ensuring suitable monitoring and supervision is established.
  • Ensure SHEQ internal and external audit findings are completed and closed, with all actions completed in agreed timescales.

Role Requirements

  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent and CMIOSH (working towards)
  • Qualification in Environmental Management (IEMA)
  • Qualification in Quality Management
  • Membership of an appropriate professional body.
  • SMSTS, TWC, CSCS
  • Level 3 Award in Education and Training or equivalent
  • P405 Asbestos Awareness desirable
  • Lead Auditor
  • Fire Risk Assessment (FRA)
  • CDM awareness & to maintain up to date with current changes.
  • Mental Health First aider or equivalent

Candidate Requirements

  • Right to work in the UK
  • Similar industry experiences desirable
  • Broad experience within the engineering/district energy environment.
  • Excellent in-depth working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Exceptional communications skills, both written and verbal.
