About the role:
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with a strong development background and hands-on experience in observability tooling (ELK, Grafana, Prometheus, Honeycomb, OTel etc.) to join our mission of revolutionizing how we observe and troubleshoot our systems. In this role, you will help shape the future of observability at Forter, building scalable monitoring systems, creating intuitive developer tools, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure our systems are both highly reliable and easy to troubleshoot.
What you’ll be doing:
- Collaborate on Observability Systems: Help design, build, and maintain Forter’s observability, monitoring, and alerting systems, ensuring they meet the needs of over 150 engineers across 20+ teams.
- Work alongside another senior engineer to help us complete our migration from our existing ELK stack to our new, more scalable platform that helps engineers easily track and resolve issues.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to level up their observability, and make the most of the platform we offer with a long-term, sustainable focus.
- Help create a culture of continuous learning both inside and outside the team by leading by example, sharing knowledge, and contributing to team-wide discussions on improving processes and technology.
What you’ll need:
- 4+ years of experience in the relevant field.
- You are self-driven, with a passion for building high-quality, sustainable software.
- You’re an effective communicator, able to explain complex technical issues and collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- You’re always looking for ways to improve processes and optimise systems.
- You have a growth mindset, embracing challenges as opportunities to learn and develop.
- Comfortable working in a collaborative environment, especially with pair programming or code reviews.
- Hands-on experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting systems such as Prometheus, Mimir, Grafana, ELK, Honeycomb, Loki, Quickwit or similar.
- Extensive experience working with AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes, or other cloud platforms and container orchestration tools.
It would be cool if you have:
- Experience with Observability-Driven Development (ODD).
- Experience designing and scaling monitoring and alerting infrastructure for distributed systems.
- Familiarity with distributed tracing (e.g. OpenTelemetry).
- Experience with cost optimisation strategies for observability tools and infrastructure.
- Knowledge of microservices architectures and how to monitor complex, interdependent services.
- Experience with SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) principles and practices.
- Contributions to open-source projects in observability, monitoring, or related areas.
Benefits include:
- Competitive salary and bonus plan.
- Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
- Private health insurance, including vision and dental coverage.
- Generous PTO policy.
- Half day Fridays, every Friday.
At Forter, we believe unique people create unique ideas, and valuable experience comes in many forms. So, even if your background doesn’t match everything we have listed in the job description, we still encourage you to apply and tell us why your skills and values could be an asset to us.
