We have an exciting opportunity to join the Waste Water Recycling Team as the new Regional Business Lead for the East Region (Nottinghamshire). We recycle wastewater on behalf of society, to deliver a trusted and safe service which positively enhances the environment. Through engaged and highly skilled teams, embracing technology, working smartly and collaboratively, whenever and whatever the weather.
In this role you will:
- Lead and develop a large team of between 120-200 Operatives, Maintainers, Technicians, and Managers.
- Manage over 1,000 sewage works and pumping stations to deliver the highest standards of output and exceed commitments to customers, while protecting and enhancing the environment.
- Ensure execution of strategy and business plans that meet the highest level of environmental compliance.
- Lead on continuous improvement and transformational initiatives and cross team delivery on behalf of East region and Seven Trent Water.
- Be responsible for an overall operating budget of £50m+ whilst supporting capital investments into sites of over £200m.
- Oversee development of a longer-term view of asset performance and future investment needs in conjunction with asset strategy teams.
- Develop a strong inspired leadership team that engages and is driven to meet or exceed business targets.
Some other key accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
- Accountability for the health, safety, wellbeing and employee engagement of a large operational team.
- Accountable for delivering permit compliance, environmental performance and financial commitments.
- Ensure that your Area operates and maintains assets according to policies and standards.
- Constructively challenge these where they are not appropriate or working effectively.
- Seek and apply innovation and continuous improvement to activities and processes within your span of control.
- Constantly search for more effective, faster and cheaper ways of delivering outstanding service to our customers.
- Develop an internal and external network in order to work collaboratively across Severn Trent and key external stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with legislation and continuous improvement on standards.

It is expected that the successful candidate will have proven experience in leading large operational teams, engaging and achieving sustained performance improvements from a diverse workforce. You will ideally bring a breadth of experience, a track record of results and a passion for people leadership and talent development.
You should be able to demonstrate a track record of driving results and not accepting mediocre performance and have experience of managing a large and dispersed asset base, budget and team. As well as the above, it’s expected that you will have:
- Previous success and passion for delivering and leading a strong health & safety culture.
- Proven experience in working with a wide range of stakeholders - both internal and external e.g. regulators, landowners, customers and environmental groups.
- Strong drive and passion for continuous improvement and leading change.
- Ability to learn quickly on technical processes to a level required for high level decision making.
- Ideally be technically competent in Waste water treatment processes, asset management (or similar) with a proven track record of delivering business outcomes.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, negotiating, influencing and leadership skills.
- Be an adaptable problem solver, resilient and curious.
