Base Location: This role will be covering the Yorkshire area; however, this is a flexible hybrid working arrangement with an expectation that some time will be spent visiting our sites across the Yorkshire region. Base location will be determined by home location.
We have a permanent opportunity for Asset Planning Sponsor position to join the Wastewater area of the Asset Management department at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers.

New environmental legislation, unprecedented levels of investment and changing expectations from customers means that this is an exciting time to discover opportunities within the water industry. Asset Management (Waste) are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators. Asset Planning Sponsors within Yorkshire Water are accountable for the realisation of desired outcomes and benefits from any investment. They provide the governance link between the organisation’s senior managers and the management of each project. Asset Planning Sponsors work closely with our Service Delivery business unit to understand business risks and ensure mitigations and interventions are developed to enable achievement of the Company’s Performance Commitments. Where Capex interventions are required, Sponsors develop schemes through Concept and Definition and maintain involvement throughout the end-to-end Delivery Process to ensure the required outcomes are achieved.
As our Asset Planning Sponsor, you will be responsible for:
- Ensuring the Business Need and Solution in the Enterprise Decision Analytics (EDA) system are correctly and fully created.
- Owning the Concept and Definition phases to ensure the risk and solution are fully understood.
- Prepare the Pre-Construction Information (PCI) at the earliest opportunity to ensure compliance with Construction Design Management (CDM) Regs.
- Ensuring the Scope as defined at the end of the Definition phase meets the Business Need and is delivered through the Project lifecycle (time, resources, benefit realisation).
- Ensuring sign off and funding approval at Gate 1 (concept) and Gate 3 (pre-delivery) of the AMP process.
- Providing any required support to Gate 2 (definition) and Gate 4 (financial approvals).
- Agree escalation triggers with the Project Team.
- Identify and confirm training requirements.
Specific Responsibilities within End-to-End Process:
- Support the Project Manager during all project phases.
- Agree scope of Investigation with Project Team ensuring it will provide the right information to confirm solution requirements at Gate 3 (Defined solution).
- Respond to escalations when requested by the Project team.
- Understanding the project risk profile and the mitigation plans.
- Agreement of changes to time, cost, and quality.
- Provide technical support for high profile, complex wastewater issues.
- Confirm remedial works, maintenance plans and task activities are being undertaken post scheme.
- Take part in the Project Review Process.
What skills & qualifications you will need:
- Engineering and/or Science/process knowledge and experience of relevant asset base (Wastewater and Pumping Stations) and its operation.
- Detailed Understanding of Performance Commitments.
- Decision Making Framework (DMF) system understanding including cost models, service measure framework, investment criteria.
- Influencing and negotiating skills.
- Business Process Understanding of End-to-End Process for Project.
- Understanding of site process safety – representation in Hazard Study Process.
- Ability to understand root cause analysis.
- Full UK Driving Licence (No more than 6 points).
