About the Team
The Chemical Analytics team at ICIS comprises over 50 employees located across various offices and regions. Team members will have expertise in certain value chains (e.g. olefins, aromatics, polyolefins, vinyls etc). There is a widespread of experiences amongst the team with backgrounds including research, engineering and economics. Analysts work closely with colleagues in other functions, regions and time zones. The open position will be based in Europe, preferably in our London headquarters. The role will involve coming to the office on a hybrid basis (two days per week minimum) to work and connect with colleagues in person. The role will also involve regular interactions with colleagues and clients in different regions and time zones.
About the Role
The role is for a Senior Analyst to join our fast-growing Chemical Analytics team, which is focused on quantifying and analysing chemical markets to enable customers to understand what is happening, why it is happening and what might happen next. Working closely with colleagues in other teams, including editorial and data science functions, analysts will primarily be responsible to lead the production of short-term price forecasts for assigned commodities, as well as manage and develop current and forward-looking supply and demand balances. Analysts will work directly with clients to help them better understand chemical markets and explain some of the nuance and context behind published data. There is also scope for analysts to enhance analytical models, with the aim to improve current product offerings and insight for clients, or to contribute towards new product development.
Responsibilities
- Price forecast and market analysis: Produce regular short term price forecasts for assigned commodities and regions. Collect and analyse latest news and developments, support colleagues in content team. Liaise with industry contacts and clients to understand their needs and latest developments.
- Supply and demand analysis: Lead activities related to the ICIS Supply and Demand Database for assigned commodities. Produce timely insight and analysis for industry developments related to investments and unit closures, production and demand outlooks, and trade developments. Develop and leverage expertise in key derivative and demand segments. Work with upstream colleagues to understand and develop long term supply-side driven trends.
- Client engagement: Lead and drive client engagement activities, build and develop market contacts to understand commodity markets and improve product offerings and analysis. Attend conferences and networking events, speaking at events/webinars where appropriate. Support sales activities.
- Develop analytics models: Lead model developments and enhancements, for example: production data, demand modelling, end-use analysis, cost of production and price forecast models, short term supply demand development, recycling models. Will include working with both content and data science teams.
Requirements
- Previous experience of commodity markets (working in a technical, commercial or research capacity) is essential; a background in chemicals or refining markets would be advantageous but it is not a requirement.
- Strong data analysis skills with the ability to interpret and communicate findings effectively.
- Excellent storytelling abilities to present complex information in an engaging manner.
- Ability to lead and collaborate with colleagues in analysing and understanding market dynamics.
- Comfortable engaging with others to build and maintain client and market contact relationships.
- A bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field, preferably science, engineering, or economics.
