Location: West London or Dorset (Hybrid working, avg 3 days onsite, with occasional UK travel)

About the Role:

Our client is expanding their engineering leadership and have several exciting opportunities for experienced Project Engineering Leads to join their teams. As a Project Engineering Lead, you will play a pivotal role in delivering engineering projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Working closely with the Project Manager and System Design Authority, you will lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team, managing a clearly defined scope of work through all stages of the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage engineering delivery activities, ensuring successful completion to agreed time, cost, and quality targets.
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers and System Design Authorities to align engineering work with project objectives.
  • Manage work packages, including planning, estimation, risk identification, and mitigation.
  • Develop and maintain engineering plans that clearly identify dependencies, assumptions, risks, and opportunities.
  • Oversee engineering design gate reviews from initial bid through to production readiness.
  • Ensure robust configuration and change management processes are followed.
  • Foster effective communication and build strong relationships within your team and with wider stakeholders.
  • Provide systems engineering expertise across electrical, mechanical, and software disciplines.
  • Support the professional development and performance management of your team.

  • Proven experience managing / leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams on complex projects.
  • Strong background in work package management, ideally from requirements gathering through to production.
  • Experience working on defence projects is highly desirable.
  • Skilled in engineering estimation and resource planning.
  • Understanding of project design gates and lifecycle processes.
  • Knowledge of configuration and change management best practices.
  • Systems engineering experience with an understanding of electrical, mechanical, and software engineering principles.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to build rapport with diverse teams and stakeholders.
