Repairs Surveyor – Basildon District Council

About the Role
Essex County Council (ECC) is recruiting two Repairs Surveyors on an initial 6‑month temporary basis, based in the office 3 days per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out pre‑inspection of repairs to tenanted/void and leasehold properties within defined timescales, set targets, schedule repairs and raise orders.
- Monitor repairs in tenanted/void and leasehold properties, liaising with contractors as necessary.
- Post‑inspect completed repairs to ensure work meets required standard and authorise charges/variations.
- Undertake technical surveys to identify and diagnose complex repairs, specify materials, obtain suitable contractors, and manage projects/programmes for prolonged periods.
- Conduct 100% post inspections of works completed for exclusions by partnering contractors monthly, ensuring correct quality and standard.
Key Skills and Experience Required
- Experience in the building maintenance industry, inspection of domestic property, and remedy of maintenance problems.
- Experience of monitoring programmes and budgets.
- Extensive knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, CDM regulations, and HHSRS.
- Ability to make prompt, clear decisions involving tough choices or risks.
- Responsibility for actions, projects and people.
- Experience in developing and sustaining effective working relationships and communications, both internal and external, with ability to explain complex information verbally and in writing to tenants, council officers/managers at all levels.
