Would you like to be part of Vital Energi’s Strategy of Growth? Our ECS Team are responsible for the design, commissioning and future support for controls projects where the company will have a long-term presence. The ECS is a combination of industrial PLCs with a graphics and reporting package to form a comprehensive SCADA solution, in place of a conventional BMS. We work with a strong emphasis on the ongoing efficiency and resilience of systems in the district heating, solar and healthcare sectors.
The Role
We’re looking for an ECS Commissioning Engineer to join the team (Flexible with location). The successful candidate will assist in the provision of on-site commissioning of the Energy Control Systems project works, working as part of the ECS Team. The role will build on existing PLC or BMS knowledge. Ongoing development around the SCADA platform will be an underlying element of the role.

The ECS Engineer will:
- Work alongside the rest of the team and independently to commission and set to run PLC control systems across various sites in construction and renovation environments.
- Develop their proficiency in PLC ladder-logic software testing and revision using Allen Bradley ControlLogix and Schneider Modicon controllers.
- Excel at fault-finding and correction in new and pre-existing installations using manufacturers datasheets and electrical panel drawings.
- Integrate various plant equipment using hard-wired signals and communication protocols, primarily Modbus.
- Establish network communications (including Fibre Optic) between all PLC controllers and to SCADA Supervisor PC.
- Communicate effectively, through written reporting, Teams meetings and on-site meetings with the team and wider company.
- Demonstrate safe working at all times, developing and adhering to all RAMS and site working practices.
- Complete weekly timesheets, mileage & expense returns so costs are allocated to the correct contracts.
- Maintain good standards of housekeeping, personal appearance and timekeeping.
- Carry out other duties consistent with the nature, responsibilities and seniority of the post.
The Person
Skills and Education:
- 3 A Level’s grade C and above, preferably including maths, technology or electronics.
- 8 GCSE’s grade C and above.
- Demonstrable experience in PLC or BMS install and/or programming.
- Relevant health and safety training will be given, experience in a comparable environment would be an advantage.
- ECS Skills card is essential, if moving from a related discipline this will be required as soon as feasible.
- Engagement with the professional development process and setting of challenging goals for continuous learning.
- A sound understanding of electrical principles and/or electronics.
- A high level of proficiency in information technology.
- Basic skills in using hand-tools in a workshop or site environment.
