At Colchester Institute and University Centre Colchester, we are looking for a passionate and experienced Teacher Development Manager to drive excellence in Initial Teacher Education (ITE) and support the development of high-quality teaching and learning across our college.
About the Role:
As the Teacher Development Manager, you will take responsibility for the development, delivery, and quality assurance of all teacher education programmes, including:
- Certificate in Education/PGCE
- Level 5 FE Teacher (Learning and Skills) Apprenticeship
- BA (Hons) Education pathways
You will play a vital role in ensuring our teacher education provision meets the highest standards and prepares educators for impactful careers in the Further Education and Skills sector. In addition, you will manage the Expert Practitioner team supporting the coaching and mentoring of new and experienced teachers including developing the use of innovative learning technologies within teaching, learning and assessment.
About You
We are seeking a dynamic and credible educational leader with:
- A proven track record in the design and delivery of teacher education programmes.
- Strong knowledge of Ofsted frameworks and quality assurance in FE and HE.
- A relevant degree (essential) – a Master's in Education or a related field is highly desirable.
- Outstanding leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
- A commitment to driving forward best practices in teaching, learning, and assessment.
Essential Requirements:
- Minimum of Level 2 qualification in English and Mathematics GCSE 4+ or C and above / CSE Level 1 / O-Level C or above / Level 2 Adult Numeracy or Literacy or equivalent.
- Degree/postgraduate qualification, ideally Masters in Education.
- Teaching qualification – minimum of Level 5 (e.g. Certificate in Education/PGCE or equivalent).
Essential Experience:
- Knowledge and experience of current practices and innovations in HE and FE and in particular statutory and national developments in Initial Teacher Education.
- Evidence of the effective management of a team of staff, demonstrating improvements in quality and success indicators to achieve excellence.
- Ability to carry out all aspects of the ITE delivery including observations, mentoring and quality assurance.
- Experience of development of excellent practice in teaching, learning and assessment including coaching and mentoring new and experienced teachers.
- Experience of delivering ITE programmes and modelling best practice in teaching, learning and assessment including the use of innovative learning technologies.
- Knowledge of the requirements of Ofsted Initial Teacher Education Inspection.
- Evidence of leading and supporting staff in the development of strong teaching, learning and assessment embracing innovative practice and leading to demonstrable positive impact for learners.
- Evidence of effective and efficient management and deployment of staff and non-staff resources in the support of a high-quality student experience.
- Experience of proactive curriculum development, promotion and marketing which ensures continuous improvement of the curriculum.
