Summary

We are seeking a reliable and skilled Street Lighting Operative to join our highways and infrastructure team on nights. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of street lighting equipment, ensuring all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards.

Desirable Skills

• Install, maintain, and repair street lighting columns, lanterns, bollards, signs, and other highway electrical equipment.
• Carry out fault finding and diagnostics on lighting circuits and control systems.
• Replace lamps, control gear, photocells, and other components as required.
• Work at height using MEWPs (Mobile Elevated Work Platforms) and ladders safely and effectively.
• Undertake electrical testing and inspection in accordance with current IET Wiring Regulations.
• Ensure all work complies with health and safety standards, including the use of correct PPE and adherence to safe working practices.
• Complete job records and reports accurately, using handheld devices or paper-based systems.
• Respond to emergency call-outs as required, including out-of-hours work.

Specialist Skills

• IPAF (International Powered Access Federation) certification.
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.
• Experience with remote monitoring systems or smart lighting technologies.

General Competencies

• Experience in street lighting, electrical installation, or similar field.
• NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent.
• ECS (Electrotechnical Certification Scheme) or CSCS card.
• G39 Certification (Working in the Vicinity of DNO Equipment).
• Full UK driving licence (Category B); HGV or towing licence is advantageous.
• Ability to work at heights
• Strong understanding of health and safety requirements, including risk assessments and method statements.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.


Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: Full Time – 40 – Monday to Friday
