People and Culture Director
We are seeking an experienced People and Culture Director for our client, who is a specialist electrical engineering company based in the Bristol area. This award-winning business with an outstanding reputation in the industry has seen considerable growth in the last 2 years and now employees approximately 140 people. With a pipeline of projects extending into 2026 and beyond, this business will see continued success.
About the role
Please not this role is an on-site role. This role reports directly to the Managing Director and is on the Board of Powersystems UK Ltd. It is a key leadership role, taking accountability for the People Strategy and employee experience. This role will deliver enhanced company and employee performance through the development and evolution of organisational culture. Championing employees, the People, Culture Director will be the employee voice on the Board and provide strategic and people focused input, advice and guidance.
Strategic Delivery
- Act as a strategic partner to the Powersystems board by providing strategic decision making, advice and guidance to ensure commercially sound people decisions that align with the People Strategy and culture of Powersystems.
- Design and implement a People Strategy that aligns with and complements organisational objectives; ensuring the People Strategy is effectively communicated to the organisation for stakeholders to understand their role in the delivery of the strategy.
Organisational Culture and Engagement
Accountable for the people experience of all Powersystems employees, identifying ways to develop and continuously evolve the people experience for enhanced people and organisational performance, utilising regular reviews and surveys.
- Ensure fair and equitable recruitment practices that reflect the culture of Powersystems and provide a positive experience for prospective employees which enhances the reputation of Powersystems as an employer.
- Champion and role model behaviours of Powersystems 5 core principles: Priority No1 (Health, Safety and Well-being), Professionalism, Pride, Partnership and Proactive.
People Processes and Performance
Lead on companywide strategies for leadership development through a range of programs and training and identify high performing talent for succession planning that provides organisational resilience.
- Lead a high-performing HR function that role models a mindset and practice of continuous improvement and provides a high level of support to line managers, whilst developing their people and leadership skills.
Internal Communications
- Lead on strategy for internal communications to ensure messaging is consistent and people are kept well informed with the rationale of decisions outlined; communication should be people focused.
- Develop a feedback culture that provides a diverse range of feedback mechanisms to ensure that employees feel listened to and that their views are respected.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)
- Champion and promote DEI internally and externally, promoting Powersystems as a fair and inclusive employer that is open to all.
- Design and implement DEI initiatives and strategies that develop and evolve the inclusive practices of Powersystems and provide opportunities for all employees to have a voice.
Employee ownership trust (EOT) Stewardship
- Act as the liaison between the organisation and the EOT board, ensuring the interests of the trust and its beneficiaries are represented and advocated for.
- Communicate and educate employees about their roles as beneficiaries of the trust and how an employee-owned business operates.
- Design and implement a reward and recognition program that promotes the values and benefits of Powersystems being an employee-owned company, as well as encouraging high performance.
About You
- Masters level qualification, or equivalent, in Human Resource Management.
- A minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in HR with 4-5 years in a director level position.
- Experience with change management and leading an organisation through growth and development.
- Experience in Strategic design and delivery for an organisation of over 100 people.
- Experience in executing of business transformation strategies and communicating change
- Experience of providing strategic input to an organisational board
- An adaptive, inclusive and empathetic leadership style with the ability to influence and collaborate with leaders and employees at all levels
- A passion for creating an employee first organisational culture
- Comprehensive understanding of employee engagement strategies and good practice.
- A leader that role models ethical behaviours and a mindset of ‘doing the right thing’.
