Group Metropolitan's Mechanical Apprenticeship Programme, founded in 1985, recognises the significance of combining learning with earning. We take pride in our partnership with JTL, offering a fully funded 4-year apprenticeship to all individuals who begin their journey as an Electrical or Mechanical Apprentice with us.

Requirements to on-board:

  • Register with JTL and complete an enrolment test.
  • Complete and pass a colour-blind test.
  • Successfully complete a 4–6-week trial period.
  • Successfully pass the GML apprentice aptitude test.
  • Achieve or have achieved a pass or above in Maths, English and Science at GCSE level.

General roles and responsibilities:

  • Assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Learn to read and interpret building drawings.
  • Assist in the installation of electrical components such as pipework, HVAC & more.
  • Learn to use hand and power tools to complete tasks.
  • Assist in the testing and troubleshooting of mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Ensure that all work is completed safely and in accordance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and organised work area.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors and office staff.
  • Continuously learn and develop new skills in the mechanical trade.

What we expect from you:

  • 100% attendance and commitment to college.
  • Timely completion of internal training.
  • Positive attitude towards work including college.
  • Appropriate work attitude and PPE to be worn on all GML and client sites.
  • Attain a full UK Driving Licence within the first two years of your apprenticeship.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism including punctuality and reliability.

What happens after my apprenticeship is completed?

While we are unable to guarantee full-time employment at the end of your apprenticeship, we annually assess our staffing needs for mechanical positions. Should a vacancy become available, you will have the opportunity to interview for the position. We encourage apprentices to demonstrate their skills and commitment during their apprenticeship, as this will enhance their chances of being considered for permanent positions within our organisation.
