Job Purpose
The University of Glasgow is co-leading a consortium of seven universities, supporting the formation of a new national research centre funded by UKRI and stakeholders for a 5-year, £45M challenge-led research programme into digital twinning for transport decarbonisation. The research hub, led by Heriot-Watt University with support from the University of Glasgow, involves managing research teams across institutions and collaborating with over 65 industrial, research, and stakeholder organisations.
The PIEM will oversee the delivery of work packages and demonstration models, manage industrial engagement, and support policy and stakeholder communication. This role requires strong project management and industrial engagement experience, with the goal of advancing transport decarbonisation through innovative research and policy influence.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage and report on research work packages and demonstrators, ensuring milestones and deadlines are met.
- Lead Challenge Led Demonstrator projects using agile approaches.
- Manage research work packages, resources, and outputs.
- Coordinate activities across work packages and demonstration projects.
- Maintain risk registers and manage mitigation strategies.
- Maintain performance dashboards and KPI reports.
- Update project plans and handle resource and financial reporting.
- Ensure industrial engagement and stakeholder communication, maintaining engagement registers.
- Support policy engagement and report to advisory boards.
- Manage complex issues, make quick decisions, and undertake other relevant duties.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Essential: Degree or equivalent professional qualification, financial management skills, project management expertise, understanding of equality, diversity, inclusion, and data protection policies.
Desirable: Professional qualifications (e.g., PRINCE2), transport sector knowledge, UKRI reporting familiarity, research management policies understanding.
Skills: Leadership, IT proficiency, project management, legal and governance knowledge, communication skills, research and analytical skills, organizational ability, proactive work ethic, teamwork, and adaptability.
Experience: Project management in research or software development, stakeholder engagement, Agile approaches, and experience in higher education research is preferred.
Terms and Conditions
Salary: Grade 8, £48,350 – £56,021 per annum. Full-time, 35 hours/week. Funding until 30 June 2029. Benefits include generous leave, pension, flexible working, and wellbeing support.
