The Day Shift operates between 7am - 7pm on a 4on 4off shift and is based at our HQ in Worthing, West Sussex. Annual salary from £24,767 + £3,100 shift allowance (Total package from £27,867).
What You'll Be Doing
The operation of machinery and associated process equipment in a manufacturing environment, taking on a flexible role within the specified working area.
Main Duties Overall
- To operate machinery and equipment as per SOP and training given from experienced technicians as and when requested.
- To complete batch documentation accurately.
- Understand daily workflows and instructions.
- To understand and follow requirements for working in a change control environment.
- Actively participate in team performance discussions.
- Assist with Process Improvement activities and new ways of working.
- Assist with staff training and certification if required.
- To carry out any duties as requested by the Level 2, 3 and 4 Technicians and the Cell Manager.
Main Duties for Specific Departments
Lathe
- Mounting blank acrylic disks onto plastic holders with wax, cut lenses to shape using lathes, and profile them on milling machines.
- Measuring lenses to ensure correct thickness and enter the appropriate programs for machining processes.
- Placing lenses in a wax removal bath for cleaning before passing them to the Dimensions department.
PPE Requirements: Ear protection (for certain tasks), safety glasses, protective aprons, and gloves to ensure safety.
Tumble/Dimension
- Load lenses in barrels with beads to clean and polish.
- Load lenses in a hydration bath to make them flexible and ready for further processing.
- Cleanse and Measure lenses to confirm they meet thickness tolerances and verify their optical power to pass it to Cosmetic Inspection Department.
PPE Requirements: Gloves for processes involving Chemicals.
Cosmetic Inspection
- Examining lenses under a microscope, identifying and removing any defective ones.
- Carefully loading lenses using tweezers into pre-made injectors while viewing through a microscope.
- Loading injectors in a plastic tray, filling with saline, and sealing for further processing.
PPE Requirements: White shoes + over shoes, a blue suit, a head cover, a mask, and gloves to maintain cleanliness and safety.
Hydrophobic
- Preparing and filling molds with molymer and placing them in an exposure machine to set the molymer.
- Curing the lenses by passing them through cold and hot wash machines.
- Placing lenses in a vacuum oven to further process and stabilize them.
- Measuring lenses and sorting them into the correct power categories.
PPE Requirements: White shoes + over shoes, a blue suit, a head cover, a mask, and gloves to maintain sterile working environment.
Health & Safety / Quality
- Ensure that the Company’s Health & Safety policy and procedures are followed.
- Follow safety procedures and use the protective equipment provided and per SOP and best practice.
- Ensure the Quality Policy and procedures are adhered to.
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), including equipment and facility cleaning.
- To complete all data entries accurately and fully onto the process records.
- Promoting best practice and acting in the best interests of the company.
This role requires flexibility to work across different rooms and comply with varying PPE requirements, focusing on building multi-skilling capabilities.
