Position Summary
Our client is seeking Senior VMware Engineers to support our on-premises VMware estate. These roles require alignment to UK hours, out of hours working will also be required, with time off in lieu.
You will initially join the infrastructure support team focused on large-scale ESXi/vCenter clusters across one of the biggest vSphere deployments in the world. After an eight-week production support ramp-up, you'll transition into the specific support team, reporting to the Virtualisation Team Lead. The role will focus on the Load Balancer ESXi platform. The VMs are supported in collaboration with other teams. The roles require the review and approval of third-party virtual appliances, along with the creation of supporting documentation. The support team tasks include updating existing and creating new support documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and enhance the VMware infrastructure in line with our virtualisation strategy and standards.
- Perform capacity planning and health checks across the environment.
- Support operational standards around patching, alerting, and resource optimization.
- Contribute to incident resolution, working with Broadcom (VMware) and other vendors as needed.
- Produce technical documentation (logical/physical/data flow diagrams).
- Configure alerts, alarms, and performance reports using scripts and automation tools.
- Provide insight into platform improvements based on hands-on analysis and monitoring.
- Certifying of third-party virtual appliances in line with our standards.
Required Skills & Experience
- VMware Expertise: At least 5 years proven VMware virtualisation experience. Deep hands-on experience with ESXi and vCenter in complex, enterprise-scale environments. Along with an understanding of NUMA and vNUMA. A thorough understanding of DRS, HA, Content Libraries and Distributed Switches. A full understanding of the ESXi lifecycle.
- Documentation: Comfortable writing technical documentation for handoffs, design, and troubleshooting.
- Teamwork: Ability to work as part of a team to ensure team success in the form of value-add deliverables.
- Scripting: Proficiency in PowerCLI and PowerShell, with an understanding of Terraform and Jenkins.
- Infrastructure Acumen: Strong understanding of networking, server, and storage fundamentals.
Desirable
- An understanding of VCF concepts
- Knowledge of F5 LTM, DNS, VMWare NSX, DFW, Micro-segmentation.
- Background of working with the Agile methodology and associated tool sets - Jira, Confluence etc.

- VMware Certified Professional (VCP) - Mandatory
- VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP) - Preferred
