Luxfer MEL Technologies is a global leader in the development, manufacture and supply of Magnesium and Zirconium based products and services to technology industries worldwide. We have approximately 300 employees across the UK & US.
As a Manufacturing Operative, you will support the 24/7 operation in the Magnesium department, working on ultrasonic testing of our products, following manufacturing procedures as safely and efficiently as possible to fulfil production plans. This will involve:
- Operating process equipment and machinery, including ultrasonic testing equipment
- Monitoring processes and recording parameters for production records, log sheets and SAP transactions
- Communicating status to other operators and departments
- Performing in house tests/analysis to ensure product is produced in line with specifications
- Packing of finished goods into drums, bags, onto pallets or other forms of container for transportation
- Aiding in the investigation and identifying the root cause of out of spec product and or production issues
What you’ll need to be considered for this Ultrasonic Testing NDT Operative / Manufacturing Operative role:
- 5x GCSE’s (Incl. Eng, Maths) – A-C
- Achieved as a minimum Level 2 Ultrasonics to Aerospace standard BS EN 4179, (Level 3 would be a distinct advantage)
- Experience with ultrasonic immersion testing methods
- Experience working in an industrial or manufacturing environment
- Safety conscious and have a high level of attention to detail
- Professional approach to work and a team player
- Must have experience on manual lathes or saws - Preferably qualified machinist
- FLT licence
- Must have a valid forklift truck licence. A Pendant crane qualification would also be advantageous.
The Package – Manufacturing / Production Operative
As Manufacturing Operative, you will benefit from:
- Salary from £30,703.60 (for Days) up to £42,703.76 (24/5+ shift pattern).

You’ll be employed on a perm contract, predominantly working a Day shift pattern or 24/5+ shift pattern. Flexibility will be required due to the nature of the role. You’ll be working from our head office in Swinton, Greater Manchester.
