Are you looking to specialise in Orthopaedics and Surgery? A new and exciting opportunity has arisen in the Orthopaedic/Surgical Unit for an enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist to join our dedicated department. We are passionate about patient-centred care, supporting our clinicians to lead and deliver excellent and compassionate services.

As a band 6 Occupational Therapist, you will work within an Occupational Therapy team comprising three support workers, one junior band 5, and three other band 6 Occupational Therapists under the lead of two experienced band 7 Team Leads. Working as a valued member of the wider Multi-Disciplinary Team, your role will include:

  • Assessment and treatment of patients
  • Prevention of de-conditioning
  • Facilitation of timely and effective patient discharge
  • On-going referrals to other agencies
  • Supervising band 5s and Occupational Therapy Students on placement

Main duties of the job include assisting in the development, administration, and provision of a specialist Occupational Therapy service, managing complex assessments with predominantly physical conditions, and considering the physical, emotional, psychosocial, spiritual, and social aspects of care.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Directly managing your own caseload of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions
  • Assisting in the management of the specialist team providing, developing, and planning an Occupational Therapy service
  • Acting as a source of expertise, demonstrating and maintaining knowledge, skills, and experience in this specialist role

Person Specification:

  • Diploma/degree in OT by a recognised awarding body e.g. Royal College of Occupational Therapists
  • Must satisfy the criteria for full membership of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Further qualifications/study
  • Driving licence (and use of own car for work purposes)
  • An approved Occupational Therapy supervisor for OT/PT degree students

Knowledge required includes:

  • Knowledge of the role of Occupational Therapy for people with a wide range of physical dysfunction
  • Previous experience relating to the specialist area
  • Experience of working in an acute hospital setting
  • Knowledge of relevant NHS and SS legislation
  • Experience with community/mental health conditions
  • Used to working in a busy environment
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and any other relevant IT systems
  • Experience of undertaking clinical supervision
  • Experience of managing and motivating a team and reviewing performance
  • Thorough knowledge of the Inclusion (equality and diversity) agenda
  • Experience of delivering teaching and training sessions

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and will require a submission for Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Salary: £39,205 to £47,084 a year (per annum) pro-rata - includes high cost area supplements (HCAS).
