Job overview

We are seeking skilled and compassionate individuals to join the new NHS Children and Young People’s Gender Service (London) as Consultant Clinical Psychologists.

In conjunction with the Clinical Lead, post holders will provide leadership to manage and plan the delivery of a highly specialist psychology and psychotherapy service, and provide expert clinical input.

Post holders will be responsible for monitoring and implementing professional standards, supervision, governance, and quality of the service.

Main duties of the job

The service, based on recent guidelines and developed by a multidisciplinary team, will offer in-depth assessments and tailored care plans for children and young people with gender diversity issues, including therapy, family therapy, and health support, liaising with local services.

Following the Cass Review, two nationally networked services are being established: the Southern Hub in London (delivered by Evelina London, GOSH, and SLaM) and the Northern Hub (Alder Hey and Royal Manchester). This role is based in the Southern Hub.

Person specification

  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or equivalent, HCPC registered, with additional training in a relevant clinical area (e.g., CBT, DBT).
  • Experience in clinical supervision, leadership, assessment, and treatment of gender-diverse CYP.
  • Experience supervising psychologists, providing training, and engaging in service development.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, research methodology, and clinical practice.
  • Valuing lived experience of mental health challenges.

Skills/Abilities

  • Deliver psychological therapy across diverse populations.
  • Administer and interpret complex assessments.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, families, and professionals.
  • Plan and deliver services involving partner agencies.
  • Supervise psychometric testing and clinical practice.
  • Work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and contribute to governance and training.
  • Develop multimedia presentation skills and manage emotionally stressful situations.
