Are you an experienced Building Control professional with a class 2a or above qualification, strong leadership skills, and a successful track record? Do you want to make a real impact on service delivery and team performance while ensuring buildings are safe and inclusive environments for people to live and work in? As Building Control Team Leader, you will report to the Head of Environmental Health. Your primary role will be to ensure compliance with building control regulations and support colleagues in delivering excellent, value-for-money services aligned with the Council’s priorities of Safe, Well, Connected, and Prosperous.

We seek a qualified individual with the experience and ambition to lead and inspire our team. In this leadership role, you will have strategic and operational oversight, ensuring all building work complies with Building Regulations and legislation, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

As the Building Control Team Leader, you will manage the daily operations of the service, leading a team of dedicated professionals. Your role will be crucial in shaping the future of building safety in North Lincolnshire. Your responsibilities include:

  • Leading and developing the building control service through training, mentoring, and professional development, aligning with the Council’s priorities and fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and value for money.
  • Managing daily operational aspects, ensuring building projects meet safety standards, and making decisions regarding site inspections, plan checks, and enforcement actions.
  • Providing strategic leadership, developing policies, quality and risk assurance, service plans, and performance management to ensure compliance, quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Exploring new commercial opportunities.
Requirements

Class 2A – F registration, with the ability to work towards Class 3 (G – H) and Class 4. Strong knowledge of Building Regulations, approved documents, and legislation. Knowledge of BSR Operating Standard Rules and KPIs. Experience in Building Technology and Surveying, including construction, Fire Safety, Means of Escape, Structural engineering, supervision of building work, and dangerous structures. Practical enforcement experience under the Building Act 1984. Ability to motivate staff and analyze complex issues to provide practical solutions. Commitment to customer care and equal opportunities. Excellent organizational, management, and communication skills.
