The Opportunity: This is a hands-on, leadership role focused on optimising deliveries to outlets and customers, managing a diverse fleet, ensuring legal compliance, and implementing strategies that improve service, safety, and cost-efficiency.
Key Responsibilities for the Transport Manager:
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee transportation of goods to customer sites and regional stores.
- Lead fleet operations including scheduling, maintenance, compliance, and fuel management.
- Develop and implement transport strategies to enhance performance and control costs.
- Ensure full compliance with transport legislation and health and safety regulations.
- Manage the transport budget and look for opportunities to improve cost-efficiency.
- Supervise and support a team of drivers and transport administrators across multiple sites.
- Continuously improve route planning and delivery efficiency using modern transport systems.
- Liaise with internal departments, suppliers, and external logistics partners to maintain seamless operations.
- Keep accurate records of vehicle servicing, driver hours, incidents, and operational performance.
- Manage vehicle compliance with leasing, inspections, fuel usage, and service schedules.
About You:
- O Licence holder (essential).
- Hold a valid Transport Manager CPC qualification (essential).
- Class 1 Licence (essential).
- Hold a valid ADR Awareness certification (preferred).
- IOSH or equivalent health and safety training (preferred).
- Previous experience as a Transport Manager in a retail, manufacturing, or distribution environment.
- Strong knowledge of UK transport regulations, compliance standards, and fleet operations.
- Excellent organisational and leadership skills, with experience managing multi-site transport teams.
- Competent with transport management systems (TMS), route planning tools, and MS Office suite.
- Analytical and commercially minded with a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
