Learning and Development Mathematics Specialist (Part-Time)

Location: Independent Through School, Surrey

Start Date: September 2025

Contract: 1-2 Days Per Week (Part-Time)

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Learning and Development Mathematics Specialist to join our dedicated team at a well-regarded independent through school in Surrey. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the academic journeys of pupils, from Year 6 through to GCSE level, who require additional support or challenge in Mathematics.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide targeted support in 1:1 sessions, with occasional small group or in-class support, to pupils who are struggling with or excelling in Mathematics.
  • Employ a range of teaching styles and multisensory resources, using creative and flexible approaches to enhance pupils' understanding and engagement.
  • Conduct informal Maths assessments and design tailored Personal Learning Plans (PLPs) to address individual learning needs.
  • Set clear objectives and track pupil progress through ongoing assessments, targets, and PLPs.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation in line with the Senior School's Learning Development Department practices.
  • Collaborate closely with subject staff to support understanding of each pupil's learning profile and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Interpret data from external reports/assessments to inform and adjust teaching plans and support mechanisms.
  • Build strong partnerships with parents, offering regular updates and guidance to support student progress.
  • Advise the SENCO on appropriate mathematics screening and assessment tools.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Qualified teacher or specialist with experience in learning support and a strong background in Mathematics education.
  • Skilled in working with students across a range of abilities, including those with additional learning needs and high achievers.
  • Creative, empathetic, and highly organised, with a proactive and solution-focused approach.
  • Comfortable working independently as well as part of a collaborative pastoral and academic support team.
