The team sits within Divisional Business Services (DBS) and is responsible for reporting and business plan in respect of Savings and Retirement (S&R) business. The S&R Line of Business delivers Funded and Unfunded reinsurance solutions to global insurance clients, catering for the increasing demand from clients in various jurisdictions for innovative reinsurance support that can transfer both longevity and asset risk.

The team are responsible for the production of quarterly reporting processes across US GAAP, US Statutory (US STAT), Internal Economic Capital (EC) and Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) reporting bases, providing analysis on both the asset and liability side of the balance sheets.

We have an exciting opportunity for an individual with a strong actuarial background and relevant experience to join the Corporate Actuarial team as a Manager, focusing on Savings & Retirement (S&R) business. Reporting to the AVP, Corporate Actuarial, DBS, this role offers a challenging variety of work, exposure to senior management and excellent opportunities for progression.

The role requires a good understanding of longevity risk, particularly in respect of reporting and balance sheet impacts, as the successful individual will play a key role in offering insights on the quarterly results to senior management. In addition to strong technical understanding, the role requires strong management skills, with the successful applicant being responsible for managing a team to ensure high quality and timely delivery, whilst actively developing team members to achieve their potential.

As part of this role, you will work with other functions within DBS and work with other Corporate Actuarial teams across Pacific Life. Similarly, you will work closely with the S&R Line of Business team, contributing to PL Re’s success in what is a growing and dynamic marketplace. Strong communication skills, ability to understand new concepts and strong problem-solving skills are therefore required to ensure reporting challenges and opportunities relating to both the inforce book and new initiatives are well understood by relevant stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the quarterly reporting process for US GAAP, BMA, US STAT, Economic Capital
  • Support in the attribution and explanation of results
  • Support AVP, Corporate Actuarial with development of reporting processes within selected global markets
  • Engage with S&R on proposed initiatives, providing feedback and actuarial analysis across all reporting bases
  • Manage effective networks and demonstrate excellent communication
  • Build relationships with stakeholders in S&R and wider DBS, keeping S&R Corporate Actuarial aware of relevant updates
  • Support non-BAU activities and other corporate actuarial projects, as required
  • Develop skills and knowledge of team members
Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Qualified actuary with minimum of 5 years’ experience in life insurance or life reinsurance
  • Experience of working within an actuarial reporting function
  • Strong understanding of actuarial valuation principles and processes, knowledge and experience of actuarial control cycle is a plus
  • Proficient in MS-Excel and actuarial software (Tyche preferable, but training will be provided where role holders have experience with alternative software)
  • Experience in line management, or able to demonstrable qualities of an effective people manager
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and communication skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative and pro-actively manage a varied and demanding workload
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work to timelines
  • Proven ability to work with other functions, developing and maintaining working relationships with all parties
  • Ability to understand and apply new concepts quickly. Shows initiative, flexibility, and resourcefulness
  • Embraces change and can work in a fluid environment
