Working as a core member of the ABL England team, you will be responsible for managing and growing the Marine Engineering business, with a focus on Hull & Machinery work. You will also contribute to consultancy projects elsewhere within the maritime team. Additionally, the job holder will be expected to undertake some chargeable work.
What will you be doing?
- Lead the Marine Engineering business line and provide day-to-day line management of a team of Marine Engineers.
- Develop manpower and resourcing plans to ensure that there is sufficient surveyor coverage for the business line.
- Retain and develop the existing client base and seek out new clients by networking and other prospection techniques.
- Ensure that our existing and new clients receive a consistent and best-in-class level of service.
- Assist with the planning, marketing and implementation of the Maritime business line strategy.
- Assist with the development of budgets, pricing and quotations for the business line.
- Assist with the handling of contentious client cases and investigations as and when required.
- Carry out individual chargeable assignments with a target utilization rate of 50%.
- Monitor team output and ensure that reports for clients are written to a high standard and in accordance with our quality assurance procedures.
- Provide monthly overviews of all activity to the Maritime Managing Director for Europe & West Africa.
- Remain responsible and accountable for the Quality & HSE aspects within your region / department and projects.
- Promote QHSE related activities within all operations and ensure compliance to all applicable company QHSE policies and procedures.
What are we looking for?
- Ideally, we are looking for a Chief Engineer (STCW III/2) with shoreside experience, or an Engineer who has worked in a surveying and consultancy capacity previously.
- Proven and relevant experience working with the marine surveying and consultancy industry.
- Proven experience of working on Hull & Machinery surveys and claims. Exposure to P&I and legal work is beneficial.
- Proven people management and team leadership background.
- P&L and budget management experience.
- An understanding of the maritime industry and insurance market is desirable.
- Technical ship management experience is beneficial.
This position will be based at our office in London. You must have the right to live and work in the United Kingdom. The job holder will be expected to travel to site and undertake client assignments at short notice.
