This is a brilliant opportunity for someone who enjoys working with children and families and is passionate about their health and wellbeing. We\’re looking for registered nurses and/or Midwives interested in becoming a Student Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) in School Nursing, with a view to starting a 12-month training programme in January 2026.

We provide an excellent learning environment supported by practice supervisors and assessors who will help you become fully qualified through the University of Greenwich, all while being employed as a vital part of our friendly and professional team helping children have the best possible start in life.

You will be paid throughout your training, and upon successful completion, you’ll become a fully qualified Band 6 SCPHN with a specialism in School Nursing, offering lots of opportunities for career progression.

Our work involves partnerships with various agencies including local schools, family hubs, and GPs, managing a challenging and rewarding caseload. We encourage creativity and new ideas.

This community-based role involves duties carried out between your home, community settings, schools, or trust sites. We operate across East Sussex (excluding Brighton & Hove), with one training post available.

Your Daily Activities Will Be Varied and Include:

  • Promoting public health initiatives to support healthy lifestyles for children, young people, and their families.
  • Delivering packages of care such as healthy weight, toileting, behaviour/parenting, emotional health, and wellbeing.
  • Undertaking health needs assessments.
  • Supporting the daily management of young people\’s texting services.
  • Managing a caseload of children and young people.
  • Focusing on high-impact areas outlined in the Healthy Child Programme.
  • Safeguarding children and families.
  • Leading Quality Improvement (QI) projects.
