Purpose of the Role
- Operates the specific vehicles used for project work in their field of specialty (road, pipelines, rail, etc.) following safety guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Training will be provided where required.
- Responsible for booking on and off duty as per rosters and weekly orders.
- Report fit for duty (physically, emotionally, mentally).
- Wear personal protective clothing (P.P.C.) as supplied.
- Maintain clear communication with Rugby Control Room (Help Desk).
- Work to a safe and competent standard.
- Carry out emergency procedures as required.
- Perform additional duties as directed by team leaders or managers.
- Liaise with Control Room/Operations Managers regarding worksite information, vehicle breakdowns, accidents, and drug screening requests.
- Complete all necessary paperwork and administrative duties accurately and promptly.
- Ensure machinery is maintained, clean, and in good condition.
- Complete shift reports and incident documentation, including photos, and submit to Rugby.
- Coordinate with maintenance for servicing, repairs, faults, and spares.
- Provide detailed reports on all on-track incidents.

Person Specification
Driving
- Maintain knowledge of traction, routes, rules, regulations, and notices; update publications as needed.
- Read and understand all notices affecting route knowledge.
- Operate machines safely and in accordance with rules.
- Adjust driving techniques for conditions.
- Observe signals and report irregularities.
- Report line safety incidents promptly to Network Rail.
- Maintain personal route knowledge and refresh regularly.
- Ensure annual driving assessments and biennial rules/certification.
- Perform DOO duties if qualified.
- Conduct safety checks daily and weekly.
- Communicate with site customers and respond to faults.
- Assist with machine repairs and maintenance, liaising with the maintenance team.
Qualifications/Experience
- Proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook
- Good communication skills
- Positive attitude and professional pride
- Ability to work weekends, bank holidays, and shifts
- Mechanically minded with NVQ Level 3
- Clean road vehicle driving license
