Overview:
The Patient Care Technician provides patient care by supporting activities of daily living, including vital signs, mobility, ambulation, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and Foley catheter insertion and removal. They comply with patient safety practices under the supervision of a registered nurse. Responsibilities also include observing patients\’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions, documenting findings accurately and timely, and reporting changes to medical staff. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within 90 days of hire.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent (Required)
Certification/Licensure
- CNA certification (Required within 90 days)
- BLS certification (Required within 90 days)
Experience
- Providing patient care and supporting activities of daily living
- Measuring vital signs, assisting with mobility and ambulation
- Performing phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and Foley catheter procedures
- Adhering to patient safety practices under RN supervision
- Monitoring and documenting patients\’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions accurately and promptly
