The role

Crown Paints invites you to join our dedicated Multi-skilled Maintenance Team at our Polymer Plant in Darwen, Blackburn, working under the guidance of the Engineering Maintenance Manager.

This is a two-shift role with the following hours:

  • Week 1: 6am to 2pm, Monday to Friday
  • Week 2: 1.45pm to 10.15pm, Monday to Thursday

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Maintain electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, heating, and ventilation systems, including work in confined spaces and at heights.
  • Identify, implement, and document changes to the preventative maintenance schedule for the Polymer Plant.
  • Participate in regular meetings with Polymer Shift Leaders and Engineering management to discuss maintenance requirements and priorities.
  • Plan and execute scheduled maintenance to enhance production and asset utilization, based on data from KPIs, RCM, lean initiatives, and downtime meetings.
  • Collaborate with manufacturers to obtain technical information for servicing and repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Stay informed about energy development projects for potential implementation at the Polymer Plant to achieve energy savings.
  • Contribute to engineering and production projects, including input for Capital Expenditure requests.
  • Perform routine 6S procedures and audits as required.
  • Conduct inspections, installations, and maintenance following IEC 60079-17 standards.

Required qualifications, skills, and experience:

  • Time-served Mechanical or Electrical Maintenance Technician
  • NVQ Level 3 in an Engineering discipline
  • Practical knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, and electrical/electronic motion control systems
  • Understanding of PLC systems, including troubleshooting and error correction
  • Comprehensive understanding of raw material handling, production, filtering, and tanker operations
  • Experience in installing and commissioning projects
  • Counterbalance FLT license
  • SCADA experience
  • MEWP license, IOSH certification, and CompEx Ex01-04 & Ex11 certifications
