The Knowsley Estate is a fabulous, forward-looking, diverse and growing rural estate business, located largely in Merseyside, and centred around the magnificent Knowsley Hall, ancestral home of the Earl and Countess of Derby. The Hall is a leading venue for private stays, corporate events and weddings, which together with the famous Knowsley Safari Park are an important source of income.
The Estate is looking to appoint an Estate Manager to take a lead role in running the tenanted Knowsley Estate which includes significant commercial, residential, and agricultural property interests, as well as traditional activities of in-hand farming, sporting, and forestry across 15,600 acres. The role will also have responsibility for the Crag Estate, a smaller largely rural estate on the edge of the Peak District.
Reporting to the CEO and working closely with the family, the successful candidate will manage, enhance and optimise all areas of the Estate’s enterprises as they diversify and evolve, overseeing daily operations, achieving set goals, developing team skills and fostering growth, ensuring the business’s long-term success and sustainability for future generations.
The Candidate
- Ideally MRICS qualified, with a proven track record and experience in the management of rural estates with commercial activities.
- An engaging and personable character with strong leadership qualities and a friendly and approachable style.
- A relationship builder, able to engage with a variety of individuals including employees, tenants and key community stakeholders, including local authorities and people in broader communities.
- Commercially and financially astute, with a keen eye for both maximising revenue opportunities and day-to-day operational effectiveness.
- Self-motivated and driven, a strategic thinker, capable of showing initiative and contributing innovative ideas.
- Community orientated, with a strong commitment to the environmental and social impact of his/her role.
