Purpose of Position (Summary):

Reporting to the Plant Quality Manager, this role supports the quality vision and strategy for MSA. The SQE will work with Mission Ops, Global Supply Chain Sourcing, Engineering, and other internal functions. The focus will be on supplier activities for new product introductions and supplier performance improvements for both NPD and day-to-day operations support. These strategies will ensure MSA’s ability to meet its plants demand plans and therefore our customers’ evolving expectations. The role holder will follow global standards, processes, and tools to ensure the consistent quality of MSA products throughout their lifecycle, including enabling effective resolution of inquiries related to supplied parts quality.

Responsibilities:

  • Product Development Support: Drives use of APQP / SPAP preventive quality tools. Translate MSA quality expectations to potential suppliers, ensuring they are understood. Review documentation provided by suppliers proving compliance with our expectations. Identify gaps and work with suppliers on improvement action plans. Provide feedback to project teams concerning risk & ability of potential suppliers to fulfill our expectations (travel at supplier may be required for this evaluation). Document risks related to supplied parts and communicate them to NPD teams.
  • Supplier Development: Supplier relationship management and maintenance. Collaborates with MSA Global Sourcing counterparts across our regions. Conducts Supplier auditing – Process and QMS type audits and compliance with the MSA Code of Conduct, MSA Supplier Handbook, and related Corporate & Social responsibilities. Standardizes use of iAuditor with our suppliers and develops best practices around it. Maintains agreed Supplier Scorecard Systems used at MSA.
  • Continuous Improvement: Work on supplied part continuous improvement projects and teams (VA/VE, Kaizen, VSM). Supports material cost reduction efforts in collaboration with Global Sourcing. Reports actual dollar savings from supplier/supplied parts related continuous improvement. Promote the MSA Operating System and its tools.
  • Personal Development & Training: Operations Support SQN – Supplier Quality Notification resolution support including 4D / 8D report coordination. Support troubleshooting of production and assembly process deficiencies caused by supplied parts and join problem-solving activities and definition of resolution action plans. Product testing support. Provide essential cover and support for peer positions within the department and supervision of QA functions during holiday/absence.

Qualifications:

Experience (Required): Minimum 5 years within a Quality function focused on internal activities (Inspection/testing). Able to read engineering drawings and understand and disseminate engineering information to the supply base. Knowledge and experience with Lean and problem-solving tools such as 8D, 5 Whys, Ishikawa Diagrams, Poka Yoke, FMEA, Kaizen, 6s, SPC & Six Sigma.

Experience Preferred: Demonstrated experience as a process or product engineer and a trainer.

Education Required: Lead Auditor. Higher National Diploma in an Engineering/Quality discipline. Six Sigma Green Belt.

Education Preferred: Degree in an Engineering/Quality discipline. Six Sigma Black Belt.
