Triple West Medical have been appointed by an NHS Trust based in the Yorkshire region to help recruit an experienced Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology for a substantive position, but will also consider a Locum Fixed Term Contract for 12 Months minimum.
The Trust provides a full range of general acute hospital services for people living in and around the local region. With over 7,500 staff, they provide high quality care to over 500,000 local people. They operate via multiple sites and pride themselves on high quality patient care.
The Post holder will join an existing team of over 16 Consultants with the department and provide, to a high standard, the full range of specialist diagnostic and treatment services to patients requiring obstetric services. This includes management of obstetric patients at consultant level, i.e. labour ward management and decision making regarding high risk obstetric patients.
Brief Duties/Responsibilities:- Undertake duties as defined within the attached job plan in so far as practicable and in agreement with your Clinical Director.
- Responsible and managerially accountable for the reasonable and effective use of any Trust resources that you use and influence, and professionally accountable to the Medical Director.
- To be responsible for the clinical management of in and out patients under your care.
- The provision of clinical leadership in the delivery of obstetric and gynaecology services and responsibility for the supervision, training and appraisal of junior staff.
- Collaborative working with nursing and other colleagues to organise effectively and manage the case-mix in breast surgery on a day-to-day basis.
- Active involvement in the planning, scheduling and delivery of elective and emergency surgery.
- Working co-operatively with colleagues and others within the Trust to achieve standards for service improvement and delivery in relation to outpatient, elective and emergency care.
- In conjunction with other clinical teams and the wider health economy develop and implement integrated elective and emergency care pathways throughout the Trust.
- Participation in relevant audit and quality assurance processes, including reviews of manpower requirements.
- Teaching of the junior doctors is an integral part of the clinical work. It is envisaged that all consultants will have an involvement in teaching and training of junior colleagues.
- The post-holder will be expected to take part in the administration of the department and the involvement in the management of resources will be regarded as essential.
- Undertake specific management functions, as agreed with the Clinical Lead, in the running of the Department.
- Attend the Departmental Meetings arranged at monthly intervals.
- Ensure, wherever possible, clinical practice is standardised and evidence based.
- Be responsible for developing protocols for the management, referral and admission of patients in agreement with other clinical departments and where appropriate, in line with Trust policy.
