Job overview

We are looking to appoint a dynamic Band 7 Family Interventions Worker at the Early Intervention in Psychosis Service in Barking & Dagenham. The successful candidate will provide Family Interventions for individuals experiencing their first episode of psychosis and their families, support the provision of carer wellbeing interventions and carers' groups. A core part of the role will also involve the provision of teaching, consultation and supervision to members of the MDT.

Main duties of the job

Applicants should have experience of providing structured interventions to families and carers, and will have accessed training in at least one form of family work. Supervision will be provided by a senior Clinical Psychologist within the team. Additionally, we offer monthly FIp group supervision. The post holder will join a well-established and supportive early intervention in psychosis service for people with a psychotic diagnosis and their families. The post holder will join a group of therapists in the EIP team, working with people aged between 14-65 who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis. This post will suit someone with an interest in developing their skills in applying evidence-based psychological therapies with this client group and working with multi-disciplinary teams. The post holders will be expected to participate in supervision and CPD focused on evidence-based interventions in psychosis.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Provide clinical supervision for MDT members undertaking FI training.
  • Provide FI supervision and consultation to other clinicians undertaking FI training and delivering low intensity interventions.
  • Contribute to formal and informal teaching for community multi-professional staff.
  • Have a commitment to undertake research in Family Intervention and family inclusive practice.
  • Ensure high quality FI in the service in line with clinical governance.
  • Plan, coordinate and evaluate carer focused education and support programmes.
  • Work as an autonomous professional within established professional guidelines and codes of conduct.

Person specification

Qualifications

  • One of the following qualifications: (Nurse Advanced, Social Worker Specialist, Occupational Therapist Advanced, Psychologist, Family Therapist).
  • Registration by the relevant practitioner registering body.
  • To have completed a PG Certificate in Family Interventions in Psychosis.

Experience

  • Working with people with complex mental health needs to include psychosis.
  • Experience of delivering HEE Family Interventions to clients in Early Intervention Teams.
  • Experience working with clients and families who have experienced a first episode psychosis.

Knowledge

  • Thorough knowledge of the theory and practice of FIp.
  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of a range of approaches to working with families and carers where someone is experiencing psychosis.
