Our Lady's Care Home is seeking an experienced and dedicated Deputy Nurse Manager to join our team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the highest standards of patient care through the effective, efficient, and safe management of the nursing home in the Nurse Manager's absence. The Deputy Nurse Manager will also contribute to the home's strategic development to align with the Company's mission and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care & Quality Standards
    • Ensure that residents receive the highest standard of care and support.
    • Conduct resident assessments and oversee admissions to ensure smooth transitions.
    • Monitor and maintain compliance with healthcare regulations and best practices.
  • Operational Management
    • Support the Nurse Manager in managing the day-to-day operations of the nursing home.
    • Lead and motivate the nursing and care staff to deliver exceptional care.
    • Oversee staffing, including scheduling, recruitment, and performance management.
  • Health and Safety
    • Ensure adherence to the Home’s Health and Safety procedures and promote compliance among all staff.
    • Implement and monitor Health and Safety procedures to ensure a safe environment for residents and staff.
    • Address any incidents or risks promptly, following regulatory guidelines.
  • Strategic Development
    • Collaborate with the Nurse Manager to plan and implement initiatives that enhance the home’s services and reputation.
    • Support the development and achievement of the company’s objectives.
  • Management and Leadership
    • Actively contribute as a member of the management team to ensure the smooth operation of the Home.
    • Hold weekly meetings with the Nurse Manager to develop and review business improvement plans for exceptional care delivery.
  • Professional Standards and Compliance
    • Adhere to the NMC Professional Code of Conduct and comply with all relevant legal and statutory requirements.
    • Proactively identify areas for improvement in nursing practices, providing evidence-based recommendations for investigation by the Nurse Manager.
    • Ensure compliance with regulations under the Controlled Drugs Act and the policy on the custody, storage, and administration of drugs and medicines.
    • Maintain strict confidentiality at all times, respecting residents’ privacy and dignity.
  • Collaborative Relationships
    • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with doctors, pharmacists, external medical staff, residents’ families, religious practitioners, and the RQIA Inspection Team.

Essential Criteria:

  • Registered Nurse with a valid NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) pin.
  • Relevant post-registration qualification or evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Significant experience in a leadership or senior nursing role within a care home or similar healthcare setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing staff and overseeing care delivery.
  • Proven ability to handle clinical emergencies and manage challenging situations effectively.
  • Strong clinical and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to engage effectively with residents, families, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of care and ensuring residents' dignity and privacy.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Relevant and current management qualification.
  • Prior or current experience managing a team.
  • Experience of working with the Elderly in a Care Home environment.
