The purpose of the Depot Customs Support role is to support the depot in Customs activities, including supporting Customs activities for Middlesbrough depot and client vessels. This involves communicating with different departments and external service providers to determine the requirements for the movement of equipment, and assisting in the creation of and ensuring all paperwork is correct to enable the smooth collection and delivery of equipment. Additionally, the Depot Customs Support role is responsible for keeping registers and relevant documentation for the transportation and import/export of goods, in line with UK customs requirements.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist Depot and Customs Coordinator in all company customs requirements.
- Register and assist in creating documents for the national and international transportation of goods.
- Liaise with hauliers to get equipment moved where required.
- Populate registers with transportation and customs information to meet record keeping requirements of HMRC.
- Check internal paperwork and customs paperwork to ensure accuracy, and when required, make amendments.
- Assist with movements and documentation if required.
- Follow Health and safety standards, observe and report any areas for improvement or where standards are not being met.
- Flexibility is essential as vessel activity is hard to plan. You will work around the vessel schedules and weekend work will be required at times. It is also possible that there could be a requirement to work at different locations both in and outside of the UK.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- GCSE in mathematics and English language (or equivalent).
- Proficient in the use of IT systems, such as Microsoft Office.
- Excellent communication skills with colleagues and the ability to develop relationships both internally and externally.
- Understanding of UK customs requirements for the import and export of equipment and goods.
Nonessential Experience:
- Experience with transportation and logistics both nationally and internationally.
