What you’ll do:
As a Learning Support Assistant, you’ll work across various settings including classrooms, kitchens, and workshops, providing vital support to students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. You’ll play a key role in helping them succeed in their studies and develop essential life skills, offering academic and pastoral care. This includes:

  • Building positive, supportive relationships with students
  • Providing one-to-one and group support
  • Assisting with personal care and administering medication where needed
  • Promoting independence, inclusion, and confidence

The work you do will ensure our students have a rewarding and fulfilling experience at college.

We offer a fantastic range of staff benefits, highly competitive with the private sector and other organizations, including:

  • Local Government Pension Scheme – the Group contributes 20.4% of your pensionable pay.
  • 25 days annual leave, increasing to 28 days with continuous service, plus bank holidays and college closure days over Christmas, which are not deducted from your leave entitlement (paid as part of the salary for Term-Time-Only roles), plus a wellbeing day. You can also purchase up to 5 additional leave days.
  • Discount schemes – including discounts on shopping, restaurants, travel, and onsite facilities such as our gym and First Steps Childcare nurseries (specific campuses only).
  • Family-friendly policies – including enhanced maternity, paternity, and adoption pay (dependant on continuous service).
  • Continuous professional development opportunities – including development days, funded apprenticeships, and access to various courses and activities.
  • And much more – see the Staff Benefits booklet attached for more details.

What we’re looking for:
As a Learning Assistant, you should be empathetic, reliable, proactive, and adaptable to students’ needs. You will need:

  • GCSE English at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent)
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Experience working with individuals with learning difficulties or disabilities
  • A calm and confident approach to managing behavior (experience with challenging behavior is a plus)

Working in a vibrant and inclusive further education college is an inspiring experience. Our staff focus on delivering outstanding teaching, learning, and support.
