Colonna's Shipyard is seeking a Computer-Aided Design (CAD) operator to support operations in our Facilities & Docking department, located in Norfolk, VA.
Position responsibilities include file management and civil plan production for various projects including, but not limited to, the design and layout for sites, utilities, fixtures, jigs, and docking/undocking submittal packages.
Job Description:
- Create, modify, and manipulate existing drawings and convert them to a shipyard standard format.
- Transfer/translate field information into AutoCAD.
- Work with Facilities Director, Dockmaster, Project Managers, and Project Engineers to understand scope of work, schedule, budget, project instructions and responsibilities.
- Complete drawing/project responsibilities within scope and in accordance with budget and schedule.
- Review drawings for completeness and accuracy.
- Organize/maintain all revisions of project drawings, plot files, and other project-related information in a logical and well-structured manner.
- Work with vendors to validate projects manufactured from drawings.
- Other duties may be assigned as workload dictates.
Qualifications:
- Must have an Associates degree or 2-year program certificate in drafting and two (2) years' experience in drafting and AutoCAD. One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.
- Must demonstrate basic knowledge of engineering principles.
- Must have professional proficiency with computers and Microsoft 365 products (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, Project).
- Must have acute attention to detail.
- Must be able to work effectively with others.
- Must be a steady, reliable worker.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with SolidWorks preferred.

- U.S Citizenship Required.
Travel Requirements:
- Minimal Travel; 10% or less.
Physical Requirements:
- Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods.
- Able to sit and work on a computer for long periods of time.
