Position Overview
The Operations Leader - Animal Care promotes and ensures the efficient and effective operations of the Companion Animal Department and drives sales of aquatic pets, reptiles, birds, and small companion animals. This leader will coach and mentor Pet Care Center partners to support and enhance the guest experience and animal care. Responsibilities include training, developing, supporting scheduling, and leading a high-performing team to meet sales, gross margin, and animal and merchandise shrink targets. They will also assist in managing all aspects of the Pet Care Center's business according to Petco standards and safety procedures.
Position Responsibilities
- Use business acumen to analyze trends and implement improvement plans.
- Ensure the health and well-being of live animals by providing proper care according to Petco standards.
- Follow Veterinary Protocols for all sick animals.
- Process transactions to create a positive guest experience.
- Support guest interactions and support our selling model.
- Implement and execute Companion Animal Operations and Aquatics through training and coaching.
- Order live animals efficiently to maximize sales and inventory, and analyze department data for improvements.
- Maintain operational standards and animal-related maintenance tasks.
- Ensure high presentation standards in aquatics and companion animal areas.
- Partner with merchandising to maintain proper stock levels.
- Handle and document all adoption animals properly.
- Understand and utilize sales and margin reports.
- Lead, coach, and provide feedback to PCC partners to ensure quality service.
- Ensure proper partner scheduling to meet goals during peak hours.
- Recruit, hire, train, and develop staff, and plan for succession.
- Provide quick, courteous service to guests, sharing product knowledge and suggesting appropriate merchandise.

- Promote safety policies and procedures to prioritize safety for partners, guests, and pets.
- Foster a collaborative culture that encourages ideas and teamwork.
- Prioritise talent development to ensure a strong workforce.

Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent; some college preferred.
- At least 1 year of management experience required; 2+ preferred.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Proficiency in communication, organization, and computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong guest service, analysis, and problem-solving skills.
Supervisory Responsibility
The Operations Leader supervises Operations Specialists & Senior Aquatics Specialists and supports Pet Care Center operations as a Leader on Duty.
Work Environment
This role requires support during key hours, including weekends, mostly indoors, with some physical activity and occasional travel.
Contacts
This position involves regular contact with the public, other departments, and external vendors for various operational needs.
