Salary - £32,000 per annum (plus benefits)
Hours - 40 per week. Typically, Monday-Friday, however, due to the nature of this job, flexibility is needed.
Location & Postcode - London Borough of Havering, between two sites: RM12 5PF (Central Depot) and RM11 1JU (Harrow Lodge Depot)

As a Communication, Education, and Outreach Officer at FCC Environment, you will be instrumental in increasing awareness across the London Borough of Havering about the importance of sustainable waste management. Through community engagement, educational initiatives, and targeted campaigns, you will champion the ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ principles, inspiring positive environmental action and lasting change.

This vacancy is for a full-time position, working 5 days per week.

What will you be doing?

  • Develop a strong understanding of FCC Environment’s local services and provide expert support in responding to recycling and waste-related queries
  • Analyse data and prepare accurate reports for the local Council, ensuring clear and actionable insights
  • Maintain and communicate KPI data effectively to support performance monitoring
  • Oversee the annual Community Benefit Plan, ensuring meaningful social value and community benefits are delivered
  • Promote and raise awareness of FCC Environment’s services within the local community, engaging with residents, businesses, and key stakeholders in Havering
  • Support the Council in delivering targeted campaigns to reduce waste, tackle recycling contamination, and promote cleaner streets
  • Contribute to the creation of engaging news articles and social media content related to environmental services
  • Plan, organise, and deliver waste education sessions at roadshows, schools, and community events
  • Produce comprehensive reports and documents for internal, client, and public audiences
  • Represent FCC Environment in Council meetings, delivering presentations and participating in discussions on contract services and performance
  • Collaborate with the Council to assess and implement potential improvements in reuse and recycling initiatives

What are we looking for?

  • At least 2 years' relevant experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
  • Experience working with voluntary groups, charitable organisations, or the education sector
  • Experience in planning or delivering educational engagement projects
  • Strong knowledge of the local area, schools, and communities
  • High level of adaptability and flexibility
  • Self-motivated with strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently or within a team
  • Strong written and verbal English skills with good numerical reasoning
  • A keen interest in sustainability, innovation, and environmental services
