What You’ll Do
The MetaHuman team at Epic Games is looking for an experienced research engineer. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for digital humans and experience in the fields of computer graphics, computer vision, geometry processing, and machine learning. You will develop and apply algorithms in the domain of human face and body detection, segmentation, reconstruction, modeling, rigging, tracking, and animation to help us build the next generation of digital humans. We have developed one of the world's best face and body 3D and 4D scanners and have the team and toolsets for creating extremely precise datasets. If you are looking to push the state-of-the-art using the best data out there and would like to help us cross the uncanny valley, we’d like to hear from you!
In this role, you will:
- Be part of the MetaHuman R&D team, proving out new technologies to raise the bar of real-time digital humans and characters in Unreal Engine.
- Work directly with a team of researchers, artists, and engineers to learn all aspects of the character creation process from scanning and performance capture to animation and rendering.
- Help identify points of friction in our processes and tools, and research new techniques to automate and improve the realism of the art team’s work.
- Research and develop generative methods for modeling and animating digital humans.
- Stay well-informed on the latest research on digital character technologies.
What We’re Looking For
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Experience with computer graphics, computer vision, and geometry processing techniques.
- Strong mathematical background.
- Understanding of mathematical optimization and modern machine learning concepts.
- MSC/Ph.D. in computer science, electrical engineering or equivalent.
- Strong programming skills in Python and C++.
