One of Lorien's Edinburgh-based clients is seeking a highly skilled Design Standards Manager for an initial 12-month contract.
Essential skills
- Degree qualification in a building or engineering discipline (such as Architecture, Architectural Technology, Building or Building Engineering, Building Surveying, Construction, Construction Management, or equivalents) or HND in a construction-related discipline.
Strategy - Contributing to development plans, option and feasibility studies, research, and investigations to develop strategic or specific responses to Estates business needs.
Framework and Contract Management - Managing consultants providing design or professional services, directing design commissions, overseeing appointments, monitoring progress, and ensuring deliverables meet standards. This includes tendering and managing commissions under frameworks as required by the Estates Teams.
Design Standards - Developing and maintaining Estates Design Standards, including specialist systems and specifications, using continuous improvement processes and incorporating best practices. Disseminating standards and initiating new standards as needed.
Project Assistance - Tailoring design standards for specific projects, supporting Project Sponsors and Managers, attending design meetings, advising on design and coordination, and assisting with tender documentation, evaluation, and construction phases.
Improvement - Coordinating post-occupancy and post-completion reviews, analyzing feedback, and implementing improvements based on lessons learned, risk assessments, and operational reports.
Specialist Knowledge - Developing expertise in estate-related topics, maintaining knowledge of government strategies, policies, legislation, and establishing contacts with relevant organizations. Initiating trials of new products and preparing investigation reports.
