As our business continues to grow, we’re delighted to be expanding our finance team with the addition of a Group Accountant. Based in Exeter or Chippenham, and offering a hybrid working model, this role provides an excellent opportunity to join a fast-paced, complex organisation during a period of exciting expansion. You’ll be joining a fun, collaborative, and dynamic team, where you’ll play a key part in helping to deliver accurate and timely financial and management reporting across a group of entities. You’ll also assist with designing and implementing new finance processes, prepare reports for external stakeholders, and help ensure robust financial controls.

This is a varied and hands-on role, covering both financial and management accounting, so is ideal for someone with strong knowledge and experience of both, who enjoys getting into the details while also seeing the bigger picture. You’ll need to be adaptable, not shy to take responsibility and ownership, and be confident in building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Management/Management Accounting: Support the month-end process for multiple entities, including the preparation of management accounts, variance analysis, and reporting packs for review by the Finance Manager/CFO. Take ownership of the monthly invoicing process, raising invoices in line with customer contracts, and investigating any discrepancies. Assist with the preparation of VAT returns for multiple entities. Assist with bookkeeping for multiple entities. Provide cover for the Finance Assistant/Finance Manager where required.
  • Financial Reporting & Compliance: Assist with the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with accounting standards. Assist with the annual external audit of the group financial statements. Assist with preparing KPIs and covenant calculations for external reporting. Assist in the development of financial controls and ensure compliance with internal and external requirements.
  • Business Support & Collaboration: Work with internal stakeholders to provide financial insights that support effective decision-making. Collaborate with auditors and other external partners during audits and regulatory reviews. Help present financial information to senior leadership in a clear, commercial, and actionable format.
  • Process Improvement & Project Work: Contribute to the ongoing improvement of our finance systems, processes, and reporting tools. Support finance-led projects such as system enhancements or new entity integrations.
  • Team Support & Development: Provide guidance and support to junior members of the finance team. Share knowledge and best practices to help drive high standards and continuous improvement.
What We’re Looking For
  • Essential: CCAB Qualified/Finalist (ACA or ACCA is preferred, but CIMA will also be considered). Demonstrable experience and/or knowledge of financial accounting, including UK GAAP or IFRS. Experience in preparing management accounts to ETB level. Advanced Excel skills and a methodical, detail-oriented approach. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships both internally and externally.
  • Desirable: 2-3 years’ experience in a financial accounting or similar technical finance role. Experience in assisting with, or leading, external audits. Experience in a multi-entity or group finance environment. Previous exposure to team supervision or mentoring. Involvement in finance transformation or systems projects.
