Are you an experienced finance professional seeking a stable, rewarding role in a long-standing, family-run business? We are recruiting on behalf of a company with a turnover of around £5 million, where the current Bookkeeper is retiring after 9 years of loyal service.
This is a rare opportunity to step into a trusted, stand-alone finance role within a friendly, close-knit team. Based just outside Nottingham city centre, the business offers a supportive, down-to-earth working environment, with flexibility around start and finish times, and a genuine team spirit.
The Role
Working closely with the Directors and wider team, you’ll take full ownership of day-to-day transactional finance responsibilities. Your duties will include:
- Managing both sales and purchase ledgers
- Bank reconciliations and cash flow monitoring
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns
- CIS processing (ideal but not essential)
- Liaising with external accountants
- Producing management information for Directors
- General bookkeeping and office finance administration
This position offers variety and autonomy, ideal for someone who enjoys being the go-to person for all things finance.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for an experienced Bookkeeper or Finance Assistant who is comfortable working independently. You’ll need:
- A background in a stand-alone finance role
- Strong experience managing the full ledger
- Knowledge of VAT, ideally with some exposure to CIS
- A hands-on, practical approach with excellent attention to detail
- A desire to be a valued part of a small, collaborative team
- Experience in an SME or family-run business would be a strong advantage.
