Qualifications of the Respiratory Therapist (RT):

  • Applicants must have a current and valid license as a Respiratory Therapist issued by the Massachusetts Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Needs to have working knowledge of computers. Experience with Point Click Care (PCC) is a plus.
  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities Include:

  • The Respiratory Therapist administers respiratory therapy to long term care residents with abnormalities and deficiencies of the cardiopulmonary system according to physician prescription.
  • Operate and set up equipment to ensure specified parameters of treatment such as volume, oxygen concentration, and/or temperature, nebulizers, and/or compressors.
  • Monitor patient response to therapy via vital signs. Consult with physician in event of adverse reaction.
  • Inspect and test respiratory therapy equipment to ensure it is functioning safely and efficiently. Order repairs when needed.
  • Perform staff and patient education. Demonstrate respiratory care procedures to trainees.
  • Review prescription and patient information to assess patient condition and determine requirements for treatment.
  • Determine suitable treatment administration and modifications that may be needed, compatible with physician orders.
  • Maintain accurate prescribed patient records and documentation.
  • In collaboration with the healthcare team, develops and implements an appropriate care plan based on patient assessment by utilizing standards of care to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Work efficiently as a team member both within and across clinical settings to provide quality service through communication, cooperation, and collaboration.
  • Demonstrates competence, including knowledge and behaviors, to meet age specific patient needs in a specialty area.
