Experience needed: We're seeking a detail-driven and knowledgeable Customs Specialist with a proven background in managing HMRC Special Procedures. Your expertise will be pivotal in ensuring regulatory compliance, optimising customs processes, and maintaining a strong relationship with HMRC.

About the role: This is a key position within a high-compliance, high-value environment. You'll be responsible for managing all HMRC Customs Special Procedures, including Inward/Outward Processing, Customs Warehousing, and Temporary Importation. The role offers the opportunity to improve customs performance and ensure full alignment with UK regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage all HMRC Customs Special Procedures across the business
  • Oversee the use and discharge of Inward Processing (IP) and ensure accurate, timely submission of Bills of Discharge
  • Administer Customs Warehousing (CW), maintaining accurate records and compliance controls
  • Manage Temporary Importation and ensure timely discharge in line with HMRC guidelines
  • Oversee Outward Processing (OP) and supervise reimportation within regulatory throughput periods
  • Maintain detailed audit trails and reporting mechanisms
  • Advise on amendments to authorisations and ensure procedural updates reflect current legislation
  • Drive continuous improvement across customs compliance operations
  • Support the development of customs best practices across the organisation

What we need from you:

  • Demonstrable experience managing HMRC Special Procedures in a commercial, HMRC, or regulated environment
  • Deep knowledge of UK customs regulations and practical experience applying them in a business context
  • Strong attention to detail, integrity, and an ability to work autonomously under pressure
  • Excellent communication, reporting, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Familiarity with customs software systems is advantageous
  • Ideally holds or is working toward a professional qualification in Customs Compliance or a related discipline
