A vacancy has arisen for a permanent Waking Night Support Officer to be based within our residential services for autistic adults in Northampton. Experience in working with people with autism or learning disabilities would be an advantage. The Waking Night Support Worker will be responsible for the welfare and security of the service users and building through the night. The successful applicant will need to liaise with care staff and contact the on-call manager during the night should the necessity occur. There will also be responsibilities for laundry work, general caretaking duties, cleaning, and domestic duties. The night officer will also assist in the preparation of breakfast. This is a rewarding job offering variety as no two days are the same. You will support people by providing holistic support, including personal care, medication administration, community integration, and managing anxieties that may manifest as distressing behaviour. No experience is necessary, as full training is provided. We seek someone with the right attitude, shared values, and willingness to develop their skills. If you have experience as a support worker, care assistant, nursery assistant, personal care assistant, or have worked in the NHS, healthcare, or social care, this position is suitable for you. Our support is available 24/7. The working pattern involves a rolling rota with a variety of shifts—early, late, sleep-ins, weekends, bank holidays, and flexible shifts.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the welfare and security of service users at night.
  • Support service users unable to sleep and handle incidents professionally.
  • Provide personal care on a daily basis.
  • Exchange information with the residential team and liaise with sleep-in staff.
  • Assist with settling in service users at night.
  • Render personal assistance and minor first aid if needed.
  • Ensure laundry is undertaken during shift unless an emergency occurs.
  • Carry out domestic tasks such as cleaning and ensuring a hygienic environment.
  • Maintain building security, ensuring all exterior doors are locked.
  • Undertake minor caretaking duties.
  • Contact senior staff or On-Call officers in emergencies.
  • Perform other duties within the scope of the role as required.
